Phyllodes Tumor

This is a rare breast tumor known as a phyllodes tumor.  I have only see one in my 10 years in practice.

This photo shows this large 6-7cm tumor transected and also shows the "leafy" appearance from which the tumor derives its name.

This one presented as a large mass in the breast and needle biopsy confirmed the diagnosis.  It is preferable to breast adenocarcinoma.  Wide excision is curative.

Edit:  Path came back as high grade malignant phyllodes tumor.  Good thing we took it out.  They do not respond to chemo or radiation.
