Friday:
Eight elective cases that all went home.
Saturday:
Three gallbladders
Incarcerated inguinal hernia
Sunday:
Small bowel obstruction on gastric bypass patient
Emergent colonoscopy
Right colectomy for Cecal Volvulus
Subtotal colectomy and ileostomy/mucous fistula for obstructing rectal cancer (in a near dead patient)
At least three of these operations were life saving. Well....hopefully, jury is still out on the sickest fellow. What the above means is that I did a lot of good, necessary surgical interventions on folks who needed them and spent precious little time with the family. Both things are good, but all things being said, I'd rather be home with the kids.
Not much consistent sleep for three days, so I am a bit fried today. Last night was the worst. operating til 2200, home, back up at 0300, operating/rounding until 1000 until I could get home today.

Above is a photo of a cecal volvulus for those of you who don't know what I am talking about. Nasty problem where the first part of the colon (the fat thing in the photo) wraps itself in a knot with its blood supply, killing the colon and soon there after, the person. Fun operation because the people this happens in are usually thin and have a long mesentery (look it up) making the solution quick and simple to perform.
Later today I went for a ride I really needed a beating so I towed an urchin with the SS.

We did stop to smell the flowers though. It is going off in Granite Basin right now.

Pretty amazing how capable the trail a bike is. Really got me thinking about a tandem with kiddie stoker set up and the places that could take us.
I'm tired. There is a big life change coming, but I don't have the energy to describe it. Maybe in the next few days.
