I simply had a wonderful commute to work Wednesday a week ago. Started in the cool, dark with lights for the first time.
Encountered a great horned owl (I hear him almost every night when feeding the baby) at the top of the first hill.
Saw this Bull snake at the bottom.

While tooling down the Peavine RR grade, had a young bobcat jump right in front of me and run off the trail. Luckily for me, he was curious and hung around.
See him?

Closer still.

He was not at all shy, and I suspect he was a juvenile by his curiosity and actions.
I started to get a little freaked as I was all alone out there, and there are mtn lion warning signs all over the place on this trail, so I started moving along, and 1/4 mile later another bobcat jumped on the trail in front of me, then quickly moved along. This one had less spots in the coat, and was more cagey and camera shy. Mother?
After that, I saw about 4 mule deer in a meadow eating grass.
Not a bad way to start a day. I have now had a total of four bobcat sightings in seven years here.
