Night in the Dells

I had a very busy day planned for today.  The only possible time to ride was early and that meant riding in the lion and rabid bobcat infested Dells

Alone.

In the Dark.

Such a ride is always good for a little freak out for me.  I am sure the place is completely safe, but the perceived danger level is high, and it is always good for an adrenaline rush.  For me, the anxiety is less than swimming in murky ocean water.  It is just such a creepy place full on nooks, crannies and hiding places.

It was super clear, first night below freezing and the stars were amazing.  Venus shined on the Eastern Horizon.  Great horned owls hooting added to the otherwordly feel.

I only screamed like a girl once when something rustled the bushes next to me as I rode past:)

I rode well within my limits, walking many things I would throw myself at in daylight.

I tested out the front end of Stickel, On-One carbon fork and burly Stans FR rim laced to DT 440 Hub.  That passed.

I also tested out 32X18 gearing that I just put on the road bike.  It is okay for an occasional Dells run on the way to work, much better than the prior 32X14 which fell on its face out here.  I would not choose it as my favored gear though and will stick with 32X21 or 22 on the Stickel.

What a great way to start the day.
