I have been itching to get back to commuting on a SS Mountain bike to work again. At least on the shorter ride where the gears are not essential due to the lack of sustained flats.
I finally had time this week to dismantle the Zion, put on a 14 tooth rear, and the mismatched orange rigid fork. Tires will be front Nano, Rear near dead Exi. This gives me a little more ability in the dirt than the Big Apples which were very squirrelly off road.
Really, really nice to ride an efficient machine that won't let me slack off on the climbs. Also nice to bomb through dirt, down stairs, etc, without worrying about it. I love dropping in on the HS stadium stairs and scaring the kids making out on the bleachers.
Riding the highish traction road rigid Zion confirms my thoughts about the flexiness of the frame. It is just a little imprecise as the forces build. I guess I don't like flex.
WTB Devo saddle update: I hated it on its second ride (today) without a chamois. Too narrow, needs to go back to where it came from. Lucky it was free. Back to Koobi.
Josh update: Talked to him last night. He sounded like the old Josh for the first time in weeks. He just sounded great, relaxed, and sense of humour back. Great to see him finally turn a corner. I think he will be out of rehab before too long. Leg is coming along, but the arm still doesn't work too well.
Random thoughts.
